How Do You Want the MEMORY of Your Wedding Day to FEEL?

The same wedding day photographed by five different people would become five very different memories. This is a small note on choosing a wedding photographer whose way of seeing feels like yours.

Two brides in white wedding dresses standing close together in a quiet green forest, photographed in a natural documentary wedding style by Moments by Sue.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately.

Wedding photography is often described with style words: documentary, cinematic, editorial, fashion-inspired, fine art, candid, unposed... And those words can be helpful, of course. They give you a direction. They help you notice what you are drawn to.

But I do not think they tell the whole story.

Because every photographer brings their own way of seeing.

The same wedding day photographed by five different people would become five very different memories. Not because one of them saw the truth and the others did not. But because each of them would notice something else. They would stand somewhere else. Wait for a different second. Choose a different frame. Feel the room in a different way.

One photographer might be drawn to elegance and clean composition. Another to movement and high energy. Another to fashion, colour, drama, wild flash, or perfectly styled details.

And then there are photographers who keep looking for the quiet things.

The hand squeeze before walking in. The wind moving through a veil. The old wall behind you. Your grandmother's face during the ceremony. The slightly chaotic hug. The rain that was not planned but somehow made everything more alive. The few seconds when you forget that anyone is watching.

None of these ways is more correct than the other.

But they will feel different..

Style is not only about how photographs look.

When couples choose a wedding photographer, it is easy to focus on the visible things first: colour, editing, poses, composition, whether the images feel light or moody, polished or raw, modern or nostalgic.

All of that matters.

But underneath the visual style is something quieter: the photographer's presence.

How do they move through a wedding day? Do they direct a lot, or only when it helps? Do they look for perfection, or for truth? Do they make space for things to unfold? Do they notice the people around you, the atmosphere of the place, the little emotional fragments that might not seem important until years later?

For me, this is where the real fit begins.

Not only in the question, "Do I like these photos?"

But also:

"Do I want my own memories to feel like this?"

My way of seeing a wedding day

I am drawn to weddings that feel intimate, honest and alive.

Not necessarily small in size, but small enough in spirit that people can still feel each other. Weddings where the day is not only designed to look beautiful, but to be lived. Where the couple cares about presence more than performance.

I love old walls, forests, messy gardens, quiet city corners, candlelight, soft chaos, wind, fog, light dancing through shadows, nervous hands, imperfect hugs, and the poetry of things that could never be planned…

I will guide you when guidance helps.

But most of the time, I am watching for what is already there.

The way you lean into each other. The way your people gather around you. The small gestures that say more than a perfectly arranged portrait ever could.

I want your photographs to feel cinematic, but not staged. Poetic, but still true. Gentle, but not passive. Beautiful, but not detached from the real emotion of the day.

The right photographer is not the same for every couple.

And I honestly love that.

Some couples want their wedding day to feel bold and high-energy in photographs. Some want something editorial and cool. Some want a party documented with flash and movement. Some want elegance, polish and fashion.

There is a perfect photographer for all of those couples.

For me, the couples I connect with most are usually the ones who want something softer, deeper and more observational.

They often tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera. They do not want to spend their whole wedding day posing. They care about the landscape, the atmosphere, the people, the tiny in-between moments. They want the photographs to bring them back to what the day felt like, not only what it looked like.

If that sounds like you, you are probably already looking for something more than a pretty gallery.

You are looking for someone whose eyes you trust.

When you look through a photographer's work, try asking yourself:

Do these images make me feel something, even if I do not know the people in them?

Do I like the quiet photographs too, not only the most impressive portraits?

Can I imagine being around this person on an emotional day?

Do the photographs feel like a performance, or like something lived?

Do I recognise the kind of memory I would want for myself?

Sometimes it is enough to feel: yes, this is how I want it to be remembered.

For intimate weddings and elopements in Vienna and Austria

Vienna has so many layers for this kind of storytelling.

Old architecture, quiet gardens, city streets, candlelit rooms, hidden corners, elegant venues, and nature just outside the city. Austria gives even more space for true nature-loving souls: mountains, lakes, forests, old ruined castles, changing weather, places that already feel full of memory…

For intimate weddings and elopements, these surroundings can become more than a backdrop. They become part of the feeling of the day.

And that is what I am always looking for.

Not only where you stood.

But what it felt like to be there.

Related FAQ

How do we choose the right wedding photographer?

Choose a wedding photographer whose full galleries, presence and way of seeing feel close to how you want to remember your day. It is not only about editing style or beautiful portraits, but about whether their photographs make you feel something.

What is documentary wedding photography?

Documentary wedding photography focuses on real moments as they naturally unfold. It can still be artistic, cinematic and intentional, but it does not rely on turning the whole day into a performance for the camera.

Can cinematic wedding photography still feel natural?

Yes. Cinematic wedding photography does not have to mean staged. For me personally, cinematic means atmospheric, emotional and carefully observed, while still keeping the day honest and unforced.

Is this approach suitable for intimate weddings and elopements in Vienna?

Yes. A gentle documentary and cinematic approach is especially suited to intimate weddings and elopements in Vienna and Austria, where the atmosphere, location and real connection between people can become the heart of the story.

What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?

That is completely normal. You do not need to know how to pose. I offer gentle guidance when needed, but the focus is on helping you feel present with each other rather than performing for the camera.

If you are planning an intimate wedding or elopement in Vienna, Austria or somewhere close to your heart, and you are looking for photographs that feel honest, cinematic and quietly poetic, I would be happy to hear from you.

Not because I am the right photographer for everyone.

But maybe because my way of seeing feels close to yours.

Do We Need to Pose? A Relaxed Family and Maternity Session in Vienna

A gentle note about relaxed family and maternity photos in Vienna, Austria: no posing skills needed, toddlers welcome, real moments encouraged.

Family walking through a forest path near Vienna, with a toddler running ahead during a relaxed maternity and family photoshoot.

If you are looking for relaxed family or maternity photos in Vienna or nearby, you do not need to know how to pose. My sessions are gentle, documentary and built around real family rhythms: walking, cuddling, exploring, resting, and letting children be exactly as they are.

Some family sessions begin very simply.

No big plan, no perfect behaviour, no need for everyone to smile at the same time. Just a slow walk under the trees, your little one collecting pine cones like small forest treasures, dirty knees, last year’s leaves softly clinging to your hair, and soft light gently reaching through the forest rooftop.

This is one of the reasons I love photographing families outside. The forest gives everyone something to do. Children can run, collect things, hide behind trees, sit down for a minute, get up again. Parents can breathe a little. And somewhere inside that ordinary movement, the photographs begin to feel less like a performance and more like a memory.

And that’s what both you and I want.

Black and white detail of parents gently holding their toddler during a family maternity photo session.

So in case you were wondering…

Do we need to pose?

Not really.

I will guide you gently when it helps, but I never expect you to know what to do with your hands or how to stand. Most of the time, I am looking for the small things that are already there: the way your child reaches for you, the way you automatically fix their hair, the way you hold each other when nobody is trying too hard.

You do not need to arrive as a polished version of your family. You can just arrive as you are.

What if our toddler runs around the whole time?

Then let them run.

Toddlers are not meant to stand still for an hour, and honestly, I would not want them to. The running, climbing, collecting, refusing, laughing, hiding and coming back for a cuddle is often the whole story of this age.

I do not see that as something going wrong. I see it as the real rhythm of your family right now.

Can we combine maternity and family photos?

Yes, and I often find that combination especially meaningful.

Pregnancy is not separate from the family you already are. It belongs to the same story. One child still wants to be carried, another baby is quietly on the way, and you are living in that tender space between what is familiar and what is about to become new.

We can make a few gentle maternity portraits, but we can also keep the session moving naturally around your family. A walk, a cuddle, a quiet moment, small hands on your belly, your child running in and out of the frame. Nothing needs to be divided too neatly.

Where can we take family photos near Vienna?

Almost anywhere that gives you a little room to be yourselves.

I love forests, fields, gardens, river paths, quiet corners of the city, your home, or a place that already means something to you. Around Vienna, the woods around Lusthaus, quiet parks like Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark, area around Pfaffenberg or Burg Lichtenstein, all those are beautiful and full of character and various backdrops. But honestly any quiet riverside path, forest or other natural place just outside the city can hold the story without needing much else.

The best location is usually not the most impressive one. It is the place where you can relax a little and let the afternoon unfold.

Now a small invitation…

If you would love your family or maternity photos to feel more like a slow afternoon together than a formal photoshoot, I would be happy to document that for you.

I am corrently booking family and maternity session dates in Vienna and nearby for August-October 2026.

A stroll through Vienna | COUPLE PHOTOGRAPHER VIENNA

In this blog I wish to share couple photographs we took over a strool through Vienna and also some tips on what to see if you are visiting the city for a day. Here are my personal favourite.

Evi and Ludek came to Vienna for a relaxed couple photshoot and we had a great time walking around some of Vienna's most iconic places capturing images along the way. The city centre can offer so much beauty especially if you are an art lover. When I was planning the walk I got inspired with Before Sunrise, a movie by Richard Linklater, which took place in Vienna. We didn’t get to visit all the spots I had planned but the comfort of Auri, E&L’s pup, was our priority.

Here are some of the spots we visited and some extra tips I’d recommend seeing or doing when travelling to Vienna:

  • Walk around Stephansdom and Vienna State Opera house and visit Albertina, art gallery that will greatly influence the way you perceive art.

  • Take a stroll along Wienfluss in Stadtpark, municipal park full of beautiful statues of famous Viennese artists. I especially enjoy watching all sorts of birds flying above the kanal.

  • Have coffee at one of the specialty cafés, like Carl Ludwig Cafe or The Truth Wollzeile - cafe in the coziest street in Vienna. If you’re more of a traditional coffee drinker head over to Kleines Café, which was featured in the film Before Sunrise. Be aware though, that on Sundays most places are closed.

  • Take photos in a traditional old photoautomat located in 25hours Hotel Vienna, place with a dope analogue vibe, especially recomended for all photographers.

  • Want to run away from crowds? Rent a bike and bike to Prater. Yes, Prater. But not the amusement park. Head over to the forests in the most eastern third of the green area, behind restaurant Lusthaus. You will be in awe from the beauty found there.

  • Looking for a brunch in a place full of character? I suggest you try Vollpension. Or prefer the best pizza in the city? Head over to Italian essence in Vienna - MOMO.

  • Little tip for learners of German - bring a dog. That way you have a higher chance of practicing German language as you’ll bump into many other friendly dog owners on the way eager to smalltalk. :)

Intimate Family Photosession in Autumn | VIENNA FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

I’m an alternative family photographer based out of Vienna Austria. And this is a blog from an autumnal family session in a colourful October forest.

I’m very grateful that I now get contacted only by mums and dads that want to have captured real unposed moments with their children. No fabricated laughs, no poses. Just your reality.

With Míša and her three little elves we went for a walk in the forest just behind her house. How amazing that those kids get to play in such beautiful nature. Reminded me of my childhood. And Míša’s daughter, is not only called the same as I, but also cherishes the same love for nature. She was collecting leaves and acorns with such passion, enjoying autumnal colours and light. It was a true delight to observe her connection with nature.

October is the best time to plan an outdoor session. Autumn is peeking, you get still quite high chance of lovely weather, and the nature is just absolutely divine.

What makes me so happy about this photosession is also the fact that these kids will forever have a memory of places they used to roam. In thirty years they can have a look at those images and remember a piece of their childhood. Remember their mum and siblings. Remember the nature. Their playfulness and energy. How they were loved and how they experienced that one day, one evening. A part of their life.

And I just believe that’s so beautiful and important.

VIENNA FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER | Relaxed Family Photosession in Nature

I love family photos that are unique, relaxed and tell a deep story. Story of what the family likes and how much the members love and care for each other.

Natural relaxed family picture of mum and dad holding two sons

Vienna, Brno or Baden, you can find beautiful places for family images everywhere. But to me family photos are not just about the backdrop. They are mostly about a story of what the family likes and how much the members love and care for each other.

Unique, real and unposed pictures. Those are the kind of photos that I wish more of I had as a little girl. With my closest relatives.

I love meeting people who wish to capture the essence of childhood for their sons and daughters. I love going out to the nature with them. Letting them be themselves and documenting. Naturally without stressing anyone out with the need to strike a pose or look a certain way.

With Lucy, Adam and their boys this was exactly the case.

We spent beautiful two hours together trying to make a kite fly, discovering a cornfield, walking, collecting flowers, having a picnic below a tree, saving a stranger’s kite and looking at breathtaking sunset.

Evening that makes one feel so rich.

BOHO CHIC AUTUMN WEDDING IN A BARN

Boho chic autumn wedding in a barn photographer for austria Vienna

This September barn wedding took place in Bohemian Paradise, area that provides so much charming wedding spots. Rocks, gorges, forests, lakes, castles, viewpoints… There’s a reason it’s called paradise. And this wedding was the first time I’ve ever went there.

I was so excited. Wedding of Marketka & Tom was one I anticipated with much pleasure. After exchanging many warm e-mails we all went for a hike together. Yes, that was our pre-wedding meeting. All three of us outdoor lovers. Who wouldn’t love combining useful and pleasant.

On their wedding day autumn showed its signs more than summer. Sky turned dark blue, first leaves decorated the lawns and chilly air made people later gather around the heaters. At the ceremony in Statek v Ráji Marketka and Tom read their own vows which made many eyes teary. I honestly recommend every couple to use their own vows as the words coming from your heart mean so much more than those prepared by a registrar.

Marketka and Tom are that kind of people that make me remember why I love wedding photography. They radiate light and you can just tell how much they love each other, as cheesy as it sounds. It was real honour to step into their lives, meet their families and friends and watch how genuine connections they share with people around.

Bohemian Paradise offers the most stunning landscapes full of tall trees, lakes, majestic rocks and even castles. It truly is a paradise for anyone deeply in love with untouched nature. And just a few minutes of drive from the barn we found a pictureques route leading around the medieval castle Kost. Secluded from any tourists, Market & Tom savoured their moments of love and calm surreounded by the most beautiful Czech nature.

FOREST ELOPEMENT | Moravian Karst, Czechia

Story of two souls that are so genuinely in love with deep forests, streams and prefer intimate celebration of their love to a big party…

To meet two souls that are so genuinely in love with deep forests, streams and prefer intimate celebration of their love to a big party… a dream come true.

Allison and David reached out to me over Instagram infatuated with Czech nature, forests especially. I loved their vision of reading vows surrounded by singing birds and tall trees. I helped them pick the perfect spot in Moravian Karst and recommended some lovely people to help with other parts of their wedding - bouquet by Sviti Kviti, hair and make-up artist Veronika Mykolenko and planning & legal requirements Wedding Fields.

Ongoing covid measures made us nervous for a few months but eventually the stars alligned and made it possible for Allison and David to travel to Czechia as planned. All worked out perfectly. From the beginning of their day at 4am through their beautiful romantic forest ceremony, picnic and first dance by the rocks of Rudice and further on until the sunset.

I felt so blessed for being a part of their day. The energy, love and joy they radiated was something I dare say these forests will remember for many following years. And I with them.

ENGLISH CITY WEDDING | Chester, England

To someone like me, crazy in love with time-worn buildings and things, Chester is heaven. Bare bricks, old doors, stones, all being slowly swallowed by trees and plants. You simply must marvel at this.

I bet English city weddings make every photographer excited. Zanet and Daniel got married in Chester, English city founded as a Roman fortress in the 1st century A.D. And you can certainly feel the Roman vibe in every brick and wall of the city. It’s beautiful backdrop accompanied their wedding and I loved every minute of it.

The ceremony took place in St. Werburgh’s Church and honestly I have never encountered more humorous priest than Fr. Paul Shaw. He was absolutely fantastic as his jokes made everybody put on a wide smile. As well as Daniel’s best man who started off the reception with a speech composed of anecdotes, he was pulling from this very long list of stories he and Daniel experienced together over the many years they had known each other.

Apart from everything else Chester offers one more stunning place to wander around - the ruins of St. John's Church. To someone like me, crazy in love with time-worn buildings and things, this place was heaven. Bare bricks, old doors, stones, all being slowly swallowed by trees and plants. You simply must marvel at this.

I had known Zanet for many years before she found her soulmate Daniel. They are simply perfect together. And I was incredibly happy and honoured to photograph their intimate wedding, which was among the first weddings I have shot in my career. However, I still feel so strong about the photos that I simply have to show you. I will always cherish the memory of their wedding day… as much as I cherish the bond of friendship we still share with Zanet & Daniel.

HARRY POTTER THEMED WEDDING

I’m not exaggerating when I say this wedding was indeed magical!

I’d known Matěj for a few years before he asked me to photograph their Harry Potter themed wedding. As a huge Harry Potter fan myself I was incredibly excited for their day. He and Veru chose the most magical Srub Líny as their venue and it was honestly such a perfect pick.

Documenting a place full of decorations from the world of magic while music by John Williams played in the background felt divine. I was stunned by all different details Matěj and Veru managed to gather and put together creating something absolutely unique. No wedding agency involved, it was all their work!

Their day started slow and followed by an afternoon ceremony. Every guest was gifted a wand and got a pin in colour of one of the four Hogward’s houses. Veru had the golden snitch in her hair and at their ceremony they made the unbreakable vow.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this wedding was indeed magical!
